Introduction

Launched by the PolyU, the Mentorship Programme aims at establishing a caring and supportive relationship between PolyU alumni, friends of PolyU (mentors) and undergraduates (mentees). It helps facilitate the educational, social and personal growth of mentees as well as enables mentors to contribute to society by aiding in the development of PolyU undergraduates.

Our Mentorship Programme has been implemented since 2002. Our objectives are:
  • to enable our mentors to share their working experience with our mentees and advise mentees on issues related to their personal growth and career development;
  • to enable our mentees to acquire knowledge of the real world outside the classroom.

Our Mentors

All our mentors are graduates of various programmes of our department who have had at least five years' working experience and are willing to devote their time to guiding two mentees for at least one year.

Graduates who are interested in serving as our mentors are kindly requested to complete and return the application form to Ms Bonnie Seid (ctseid@inet.polyu.edu.hk).

Our Mentees

All our mentees are final year students of various programmes of our department. Between 2002 and 2007, a total of 194 final year students of our BA (Hons) in Translation & Chinese participated in this programme. For 2007-08, 44 final year students of the BA (Hons) in Language Studies for the Professions have joined this programme.

News

A tea gathering was held on 5 May 2007 in the campus to introduce our mentors to the mentees who are students of the BA (Hons) in Language Studies for the Professions. Two pairs of mentors and mentees who joined this programme last year were invited to share their experience with those present. Two other mentors who are working in the hotel and IT management industries respectively also briefed students on the nature and entry requirements of their jobs.
