Programme Aims:
The aim of the programme is to equip students with skills and knowledge pertinent to the language industry in general and to Chinese-English and English-Chinese translation and interpreting in particular.

Programme Outcomes:
In the realm of knowledge and competencies for the academic discipline and the profession, graduates from the programme are expected to:
- (i) have sound knowledge of the distinctive characteristics of Chinese and English;
- (ii) be able to communicate effectively in Chinese and English, in both writing and speech.
- (iii) have mastered technical skills in translating/interpreting general and specialized texts between Chinese and English;
- (iv) have developed an ability to think critically about issues relating to language, translation and interpreting.
In the realm of attributes for all-roundedness, graduates from the programme are expected to:
- (i) Have a cultural awareness that can serve as the basis of a reference system for career development;
- (ii) Be able to cope with realistic demands made by society and the professional world; and
- (iii) Be intellectually mature.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
This programme will admit second-year leavers of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) students from the Department of English, School of International Studies and Department of Chinese Literature. In order to ensure the quality of the admittees, students should achieve a JEE score of at least 50 above the Key University Cutoff Score (KUCOS) and a minimum English score of 110. Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) students opting to come to Hong Kong will be required to attain an average grade of 75% out of 100% in SYSU system (equivalent to PolyU GPA of 2.5). An admission interview is required for all applicants.

Curriculum:
Students will be awarded a BA (Hons) in Translation and Interpreting Studies upon completing 66 credits comprising:
- Freshmen Seminar (3 credits)
- 12 Compulsory subjects on translation/interpreting and English language and communication (36 credits)
- 7 Elective subjects (21 credits)
- Final-year project (6 credits)
