  • Programme Aims:

    The rapid economic development in China is matched by the ever-increasing importance and power of the Chinese language. With the deepening economic interactions between the Mainland and Hong Kong, there is a growing demand for a workforce capable of communicating effectively and appropriately in the Chinese cultural context. A minor in Chinese combined with a major in any discipline would definitely sharpen students' competitive edges in the job market.
  • Programme Outcomes:

    Differing from the subjects offered by traditional Chinese departments, this programme, adopting an international perspective, provides students with solid training in applied Chinese to cope with the communication tasks in the contemporary society. After completing the programme, students should be able to:
    1. Come to the realization that Chinese can be studied in a rigorous and scientific manner;
    2. Acquire advanced writing skills in applied Chinese;
    3. Strengthen Putonghua communication skills;
    4. Develop an awareness of the differences and similarities in Chinese used in Hong Kong and the Mainland;
    5. Familiarize with the dialects and cultures in China.
  • Admission Information:

    Students enrolling on full-time UGC-funded degree programmes which offer major/minor options are qualified to opt for this programme.
