Chinese Language Centre

The core function of the Chinese Language Centre (CLC) is to design and provide Chinese subjects for PolyU students. These subjects can be broadly categorized as follows:

  • Chinese Subjects for Language and Communication Requirements (LCR)
These are mandatory subjects that are part of PolyU’s 4-year undergraduate curriculum. Students are required to take specific LCR subjects in Chinese, depending on their level of Chinese proficiency at entry.

  • Chinese Subjects for Discipline-Specific Requirements (DSR)
These subjects enhance students’ Chinese communication skills in professional contexts. They are tailor-made for the professional programmes of different departments, helping students to fulfill the DSR Chinese of their chosen major(s) and/or minor(s).

  • Chinese Writing and Reading Requirements (CR & CW)
The Chinese language training that is embedded within the Cluster Area Requirements (CAR) increases the students’ ability to write Chinese catered to the specific topics and subject content of the CAR subjects.

  • Chinese Subjects for Non-Chinese Speaking Students
These subjects are for non-Chinese speaking students who want to learn Chinese as a second language (L2) / foreign language (FL). We offer Chinese language courses and Chinese literature subjects from beginning to advanced levels.

In addition to serving the PolyU community, CLC also offers high-quality Chinese language-related consultancy and training services to government sector organizations, professional associations and private enterprises. The facilities and resources in the Self Learning Unit of CLC are available for all PolyU students.
